Řehořová, Petra

Petra Řehořová’s name is closely associated with the town of Novy Bor, the place where she was born and one of the traditional centres of Czech glassmaking. After gaining her higher vocational and art education in Kamenicky Senov she returned to her native town to continue her studies. Here she also started her professional career as a designer at Crystalex, a renowned Czech glassworks, and within a few years became a leading designer.

Petra Rehorova is a versatile artist who has worked across all branches of the glassmaking industry. Hand blowing, glass moulding, lampwork, glass painting and vitrification – this variety of glass-making technologies provide a solid base to build on. Numerous awards prove her creativity: at 18 years old she received the Grand Prix Junior Award for a beverage set; later she won recognition for contemporary design of glass tableware. Her latest achievement was the progressive design award, Grand Prix 2008, at the International Fair Mobitex in Brno. For her original designs she mainly takes inspiration from natural organic forms, piling up or conveying meanings of the object through experiments with various colours. Space is a crucial element for perception and interaction of the designs she creates. Fine-art glass is a creative accessory for her that co-exists in harmony with its environment, an attitude that is clearly reflected in her projects.
