Hovorka, Tomáš

Tomáš Hovorka ranks among the most talented sculptors of a young generation who naturally lean towards home traditions although supported by rich international experience. After finishing his introductory vocational training courses, he fully focused on glassmaking. Later he decided to deepen his knowledge and skills and entered the Academy of Art, Architecture and Design in Prague, where he studied glassmaking, and later jewellery making under the inspirational teaching of Rony Plesl and Eva Eisler. Afterwards he took a year-long course in industrial design at High School of Arts in Utrecht, Netherlands.

Tomáš Hovorka gained broader experience by being invited to showcase his works in major European cities – Munich, Birmingham, Vienna, and Stockholm – as well as in Moscow and Tokyo. In 2007, he successfully presented his designs at Ambiente in Frankfurt, Germany, the greatest annual consumer-goods fair in the world dedicated to the freshest design trends and top quality production of tableware, gifts and home design. In his works, this artist often combines sculpture and design approaches, which apart from creativity reflect different aspects of utilisation and serviceability of the objects, ergonomics, ideal materials and technologies. Frequently, he draws his inspiration from geometric and mathematical relations in two- or three-dimensional forms. Characteristic features of his creations are pure forms in detail, that at first sight create complex compositions accomplished by multiplication and regular stacking of layers often with a microscopic reflection in the world of nature.
