Hroch, Luděk

Luděk Hroch is a glass specialist focusing mainly on the design and creation of original lighting. His other area of expertise is glass sculpture. He completed his vocational training in Novy Bor, the heartland of Czech glass-making tradition and craftsmanship. He is equally comfortable with traditional and modern designs and his works often combine the two with fantastically original results. The appearance of his works depends on his inspiration at the time. Sometimes his art leans towards the traditional style, but he always introduces more progressive and modern elements for contemporary works. At other times he follows the traditional structure of ornate castle chandeliers, putting it into contrast with contemporary design. Even though he frequently combines various styles, Ludek Hroch is capable of stylistic purity which is the basis of his work. However, he prefers original installations where he can use his imagination finding inspiration in nature, mythology or the Universe, which is reflected in the names of his works – Medusa, Orchid, Coral, and Life in Universe.

Thanks to his artistic logic, his works have the advantage of organically fitting into any space. From the very beginning of his career his works were popular abroad, mainly in the United States. One of his works, inspired by Art Deco fashionable at the turn of the 19th and 20th century, can be seen at the Icon Brickell Hotel in Miami. Another one of his installations, ‘Torpedo’, floats through the interior of the Aliante Casino in Las Vegas. Many more of his pieces dominate private residences in Australia or Macau.
