Smejkal, Leoš

The Czech art glass was always fortunate to have extraordinary personalities who push the boundaries of the field, including Leoš Smejkal, a member of a strong generation, which began to assert itself expressively at the turn of the 21st century. Leoš Smejkal was born in Ústí nad Labem on 15th April 1973. As he stresses, his imagination was influenced by the rock scenery in Tisá, where he spent his childhood.

Smejkal's work is characterized by uniqueness, originality, constant looking for new opportunities in the field of art, technology and craftsmanship, rigorous adherence to the comprehensive quality of the works that represent with their demands one of the highlights of contemporary glass art. In recent years, Smejkal is dedicated to finding new imaginary boundaries of glass art in the service of a new expression. In cooperation with the glassworks he experiments in using of the challenging and unique Grail techniques, representing a new challenge and inspiration to him.
