Since 1869 he was in the management of the company Gebruder Thonet (after Franz Thonet) until 1886 (Jacob Thonet continued then).
In 1876 he constructed a machine for folding seats, in 1879 he was named the Knight of the Order of Franz Joseph I. August was also a county representative in the Bystřice Hostýnem for 10 years. He loved music - playing and composing. In 1890 the factory was taken over by his son Carl.
