Vízner, František

He creates cut shaped glass objects in his studio and belongs to the legends of Czech glassmaking.

He studied at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague, in the Studio of Glass, Glyptics and Applied Plastic Art (Prof. Karel Štipl, doc. Václav Plátek).  Since the 1960's, his work has been widely accepted not only in manufacturing but also trade. In 1977 František Vízner left industry and began to fully concentrate on the work in his studio. His cut objects cannot be seen as utility objects, but as autonomous sculptures influenced by the relationship to architecture. He is represented in the collections of the National Gallery in Prague, the Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the National Museum of Modern Art in Tokyo, the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, the Museum of Decorative Arts in Paris, the Glass Museum in Corning, USA, and other public and private collections.
